Chapter Twenty-One

Monday morning, standing in the school playground, I had second thoughts. What on earth had I been thinking? What on earth had I done? Talk about desperate. Talk about pathetic. Talk about chucking the best part of £500 down the drain.

Daniel would be furious.

Wait!

I’d cancel them as soon as I got home. They wouldn’t have seen the order yet, let alone processed it.

I arrived home just as Daniel was getting into his car. The other us would have given each other a proper goodbye kiss. The current me was just relieved Daniel wouldn’t be there to hear the call. But, as I shut the front door, I saw Daniel’s phone was still on the hall table. I picked it up and ran outside but Daniel was already pulling out of the drive. I shouted and waved but it was to no avail. The dark blue Audi headed off down the street.

Damn!

Daniel would be lost without his phone. I really should be a good wife and take it to the office. Only, it was a long drive and I needed to cancel those shoes…

As I stood there, dithering, Daniel’s phone pinged with an incoming text.
